Role Overview: Social Worker – Cheltenham & North Cotswold Recovery Team
This part-time Social Worker role is based at Leckhampton Lodge, offering a dynamic, friendly environment focused on secondary care services for adults of working age experiencing severe mental illness.
The position is integral to the Recovery Team, which provides care coordinating and support services, promoting recovery, social inclusion, and excellent quality care aligned with CPA policies and safeguarding legislation.
Key Responsibilities of the Social Worker Role
Care Coordination and Caseload Management

Manage a designated caseload of adults with severe and enduring mental illness.

Deliver care coordination following Care Programme Approach (CPA) guidelines.

Ensure compliance with safeguarding, Mental Health Act (MHA), and Mental Capacity Act (MCA) regulations.
Personalised Care Delivery

Conduct statutory strengths-based assessments to personalise care plans.

Arrange and monitor services to meet complex assessed needs, including commissioning services locally and at distance.

Reassess care needs in line with the Care Act and evolving patient requirements.
Multi-Agency Collaboration
-
Work collaboratively with voluntary sector partners, health teams, and social care agencies.

Provide expert social work advice on legislation including the Care Act, MHA, Human Rights Act, and Housing Act.

Support service development, particularly within the emerging Social Care Hub structure.
Community Engagement & Advocacy

Promote recovery principles and social inclusion for service users.

Empower individuals and their families to engage actively in their care plans.

Advocate for patient rights and access to community resources.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
Required Qualifications
-
Registered Social Worker with Social Work England or equivalent professional body.

Completed Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) or preceptorship for those with less than one year’s experience.

Demonstrable commitment to continued professional development (CPD).
Experience & Knowledge

Proven experience working with adults with enduring mental health problems.

Strong understanding of community management of severe and enduring mental illness.

Knowledge of Early Intervention, Crisis Resolution & Home Treatment (CRHT), Recovery, and Primary Care approaches.

Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and with external agencies.
Desirable Skills and Additional Qualifications

Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) or equivalent IT competency.

Experience in social care service development and integrated care pathways.
