Job Summary
-
Function as an independent senior member of the MDT, leading on social care needs, safeguarding processes, and the safety of children and young people.

Contribute to the service’s management and development.

Carry out social care risk assessments and contribute to care planning within a multi-disciplinary team.
-
Develop effective partnerships with voluntary and statutory social care services.
-
Ensure parents’ and carers’ needs are identified and assessed.
-
Strengthen the role of social work and enhance engagement with national inpatient CAMHS services.
Main Duties of the Job
Safeguarding Responsibilities
-
Collaborate with Trust safeguarding nurses and the named doctor for safeguarding.

Promote safeguarding best practices with the MDT and Safeguarding Team.
-
Lead safeguarding referrals to local authorities and disclosures with the MDT.
-
Support families and carers with practical parenting strategies.
-
Assess the needs of children requiring Local Authority Children’s Social Care intervention and make referrals.
-
Maintain effective relationships with children, families, and carers.
-
Liaise with local authorities under Section 85 of the Children Act (for long-term inpatients).

Provide safeguarding supervision and training aligned with Trust policies.
-
Offer advice, information, and resources to staff on safeguarding.

Person Specification
Qualifications – Essential

Degree / Diploma in Social Work
-
Further specialist knowledge or equivalent to Master’s level
-
Maintained professional registration

Ongoing professional development
Desirable:

Assessor & Practice Educator Training

Safeguarding supervision qualification
-
Accredited training qualification
Knowledge & Experience – Essential

Knowledge of national/local safeguarding policies and relevant legislation

Significant experience with children and families with complex mental health needs

Understanding of abuse patterns and neglect

Leadership, supervision, training, and policy development experience

Awareness of challenges for ethnic minority and socially excluded groups

Understanding of child health, development, and maltreatment

Multi-agency child protection experience

Strong interdisciplinary collaboration (education, mental health)

Familiarity with safeguarding procedures and legislation

Knowledge of Mental Health Act, CPA, Mental Capacity Act
