About the Role
The University of Sussex is recruiting a Senior Audit and Compliance Officer to coordinate audit activities within the division. The position covers FM Services, environmental services, and accommodation codes, with responsibilities that include:

Producing audit reports that accurately reflect standards

Tracking the progress of audit recommendations
This opportunity comes at a key moment for the university. The Estates division is entering a new phase of its outsourced facilities management contract, and construction is underway on the West Slope — adding 1,900 new student accommodation spaces, a Health and Wellbeing Centre, and social spaces to complement the recently completed East Slope.
The role involves close collaboration across teams to carry out audits relating to:

ISO14001 (Environmental Standard)

The UUK Code of Practice

The HESA Estates Management return
The officer will ensure compliance, offer advice on rectification, and report areas requiring improvement to senior managers.

About You
The ideal candidate will be:

Highly organised

Skilled in both applied and theoretical audit methodologies

Experienced in coordinating audits and managing external audit submissions
Additional qualifications include:

Independent assessment and evaluation of internal controls

Risk assessment skills, particularly within Facilities or Estates Management

Strong ability to build rapport and communicate clear, improvement-focused recommendations based on audit findings
About the Division
The Estates, Facilities and Commercial Services Division is a vibrant and fast-evolving unit supporting students, staff, and visitors across campus. Over the past five years, the division has developed the East Slope and is now focused on the West Slope project — a combination of student housing, learning and social spaces, and wellbeing services.
